Mountain Building Processes in Taiwan

Taiwan Island

As one of active mountain belts, Taiwan Mountain Belt has attracted much of attention in the last two decades.  The goals of the research projects conducted in the laboratory have been mainly focused on the kinetics of the mountain building processes and the tectonic events in the belt and its adjacent areas.  Some of major achievements from the studies have been published in journals, including: the exhumation mechanism and history of the basement complex for the mountain belt, Mesozoic thermal events recorded in the basement complex of Taiwan, and the onset of extension tectonics on the convergent boundary.  These achievements have apparently provided much better constraints and greatly improved the understanding of the tectonic process in convergent boundary and the tectonothermal events and their evolution in the mountain belt.
